The Vermont National Education Association (NEA) Scholar’s Bowl will crown the state’s high school academic champion on Saturday, March 28 at the University of Vermont’s Ira Allen Lecture Hall in Burlington. South Burlington High School (SBHS) and Rice Memorial High School (RMHS) are among 13 schools that have qualified to compete for the title and an all-expense-paid trip to the national tournament later this year.
The Scholars’ Bowl is a school year-long question-and-answer competition that began last fall with regional play around the state. The playoffs started earlier this year in January at Montpelier High School, and the teams that won at least three of
their five-playoff matches earned berths in the finals. SBHS and RMHS went 3-2 in the first round of the playoffs and will start finals play in the opening round at 10 or 10:35 a.m. on March 28. Both teams would need to win four matches to reach the state championship match, which starts at approximately 2:15 p.m.
The Vermont-NEA Scholars’ Bowl, sponsored by the Vermont Chapter of the NEA, has been the state’s official high school question-and-answer academic competition since the 1983-84 school year.
