South Burlington High School (SBHS) was ranked the top public high school in Vermont, by Niche, a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania based firm that ranks K-12 schools nationwide.
Schools were graded in various categories; SBHS received an A for academics, B for student culture and diversity, A for teachers, and an A for resources and facilities. The school also received an A+ for both sports and fitness and extracurricular activities, resulting in an overall experience rating of 4.3 out of 5. Student comments made note of the ample number of AP (advanced placement) courses available as well as the numerous extracurricular activitie, including Bollywood dance.
The 2016 Best Public High Schools ranking takes into account key factors such as the strength of academics, quality of teachers, school resources, and the quality of student life, as well as student and parent reviews, in an attempt to measure the overall excellence of the school.
According to Niche, they compile data from various sources such as government and public data sets, Niche’s own proprietary data, and opinion-based survey responses, to make their assessments.
Last year, all three of South Burlington’s elementary schools received top honors. Rick Marcotte Central School was ranked number one, Orchard School number two, and Chamberlin School number five. Among the scoring, all three schools received an A+ for district experience.
