Spotted Pup Productions, a South Burlington based theater company, announces its fifth production, Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The company will present the musical in the style of the Roundabout Theater Company’s recent off-Broadway show. Into the Woods will run December 11 through 13 at Main Street Landing in Burlington.
Directed by Nate Venet, Into the Woods consists of a cast of ten local actors, including four South Burlington teens, Maggie Fitzgerald, Aidan Ostby, Sadie Jones, and Noa Saunders, and stage manager Eric McLenithan. Venet is the former music director of the South Burlington High School and Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School drama programs.
“This is a scaled down but vibrant setting of Into The Woods, forgoing the traditional slew of fairy-tale backdrops in lieu of a more focused aesthetic; the themes are brought vibrantly alive through the text and the characters, inviting the audience to experience more fully the real and human stories of Into The Woods than they might if it were cloaked in picturesque and fantastic ball gowns, beanstalks, and glass slippers,” said Nate Venet. “Working with Spotted Pup for five seasons now, I am continually impressed with the fresh and creative takes that this troupe of actors brings to the stage. This show is more ambitious than we have taken on in the past, but I feel that this is, in a way, a culmination of the hard work and dedication that all the members of Spotted Pup have put in over the years,” Venet added.
“I am very lucky to have so much support from Nate, our actors and their families and many other South Burlington residents and businesses,” said Spotted Pup founder Noa Saunders. Saunders, a senior at South Burlington High School, started Spotted Pup Productions in 2011 with a mission to “create opportunities for young artists, produce high quality shows, and build connections with the community.”
