It was a rematch of last year’s championship rivals, as South Burlington faced off against Rutland this past Thursday. Last season, the Rebels had to rally to defeat the Red Raiders and claim their championship title. This season South Burlington dispatched Rutland handily, defeating the Red Raiders 7-0 and winning every match in straight sets. The Rebels No.1 doubles team of Matt Jenkins and Nikko Pasanen quickly rolled past the Rutland team of Rocco Stoutes and Jake Piatek 6-4, 6-0 and the route was on for South Burlington, who only took an hour and a half to finish off the Red Raiders in the championship matchup. Cody Yu defeated Rutland’s Dom Wyselmerski in singles-action 6-3, 6-2 while teammates Marco Cepeda and Will Gregoire respectively defeated Rutland’s Kyle Martin (6-3,6-2) and Jake Guarino (6-1,6-1). South Burlington’s Jack Graham defeated his opponent in the No. 4 singles matchup, while James Gregoire was victorious in his No. 5 singles matchup, and the doubles team of Chacun Piere and David Kunin wrapped up the No. 2 doubles contest with a victory. With the decisive championship win, South Burlington wraps up its season with an 18-1 record. Congratulations to the South Burlington boys tennis team and head coach Andrew Samara on a hard fought and well-deserved second consecutive championship victory!
