What might be more fun than a sleepover at a friend’s house? How about 14 students “locked in” overnight in a school library? This is what happened to Orchard School students who made it to the “Top Twenty” leader board of the “DCF Quest Club.” This club had participation from several schools from across the state and was based on books nominated for this year’s Dorothy Canfield Fisher (DCF) Children’s Choice Book Award.

During the Friday night sleepover in the library, students were treated to a pizza party, a movie with popcorn, games and lots of fun. There was even 3D printing for all. One special highlight of the evening was a scavenger hunt based on the DCF Award winning book by Chris Grabenstein, Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. In teams, the students solved clues that eventually led to the treasure – autographed copies of Mr. Grabenstein’s book. There were screams of delight from all participants.

Although chaperones Library Assistant Mrs. Gilmartin and Teacher Librarian Mrs. Macdonald were a bit sleep-deprived the next day, they had to agree with the students. The library sleepover was a fabulous and truly memorable event.
