Vermontivate, the game, ended on Friday June 21 at midnight and it was a nail biter right until the end…in fact, a South Burlington team member made the last play! Many of us were online cheering and encouraging each other into the last hours.
The lead spot was hotly contested by Calais and Charlotte and it was too close to call at the end of the night. After a review of plays and points, Charlotte was the ultimate winner with 37 players, 54,275 points and a team score of 2209. Calais rolled into second place with 27 players, 27,196 points, and a team score of 2079. South Burlington did amazingly well, despite our huge population being factored in, with the most players at 64, the most points with 66,513 and a town score of 1029. Over all the game was bigger and better than last year with over 2500 challenges being played across the state, 225 players registered and over 194,000 points earned!
The ice cream party on Saturday was a huge success! Hosted by Charlotte there was free Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, awards and prizes for Vermontivacious players, an efficiency demo trailer from Central Vermont Community Action Council, a raffle for a free home energy audit from Energy Co-Op of Vermont, a special solar tracker deal for Charlotters from All Earth Renewables, a world music dance party, a DIY food swap (something you made yourself to trade) and a non-perishable food collection for the Charlotte Food Shelf. The weather held and it was a wonderful day to meet face to face with all the great players from towns across the state and celebrate!
The game will return next year so stay tuned and get ready to play.
As the “Player of the Week” for Week 6, I won a Vermont Teddy bear and have decided to make him a traveling Vermontivate Bear. I would love to offer him out to anyone who would like to “adopt” him for a week or two to travel with you or visit your home. Let’s see what he can learn about the Vermontivatious things you do and to have fun. I am setting up a blog to document his “travels” and if you are interested in more information about having him visit you and your family just drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org. The bear is in Alaska right now with my son Nick and is having a great time, but we would love to have him visit as many families as possible over the next year.
Although the game has ended the amazing work in South Burlington continues. You will see me at the Farmer’s Market promoting some of the great initiatives being hosted by the Energy Committee. Thanks for all of your support and to the 64 players who represented South Burlington so beautifully. Have a wonderful summer and I hope to see you at the Farmer’s Market!!
