SBHS Principal Patrick Burke opened the fifth annual Veterans Day Assembly with a message of gratitude to those who served.  The South Burlington Fire Department Honor Guard posted the Colors, and the National Anthem was presented by the South Burlington High School Chamber Singers.  Student Morgan Mahar spoke about the importance of taking time to honor those who have served our country.  Alumni Rick Valenta, of Vermont Veterans Services,  reflected on his service in the US Army from 2001-2005 following graduation from SBHS in 2001. The keynote speaker was Major General Steven A. Cray, Adjutant General, Vermont. Major General Cray, who is responsible for the organization, training and equipping of nearly 4,000 members of the Vermont Army and Air National Guard,  stressed the importance of remembering the wars that have been fought across generations, and remembering to thank those who have served in the armed forces.
