South Burlington Veteran’s Memorial Committee Chair,  Jay Zaetz, had good news to share at a recent city council meeting.  The memorial, which consists of three separate structures placed along a Pathway of Honor lined with personalized pavers at Dorset Park, is ready to break ground.

Zaetz reported that the project, which he initiated four years ago, has been funded entirely by donations. The committee has raised $100,000 in cash, and $70,000 in in-kind donations with all funds going directly to the project.

Many local businesses supported the endeavor, and individual donations have ranged from a high of nine thousand dollars to coins offered by a young boy.

Zaetz expressed gratitude to all those who have supported the memorial to honor veterans of all wars.

The monuments have been built and are ready to be set in place.  Zaetz anticipates that it will take three to four weeks to complete the project, and hopes to be able to celebrate Veterans Day on-site this year, moving the assembly which is usually held at South Burlington High School to Dorset Park on November 11, 2013.

The Other Paper will provide updates in the coming weeks.
