The Young Tradition Vermont Touring Group will perform a concert December 28, 7 p.m., at the Lake Champlain Waldorf School in Shelburne. According to their website, the mission of Young Tradition Vermont is to provide opportunities for young people to be inspired by, to learn, and to inspire others by presenting traditional music and dance, and to support families with children with life-altering illnesses. The touring group includes 20 auditioned members ranging in age from 12 to 20. Though most are from Vermont, including 16-year-old Addison White from South Burlington, the group also includes members from Maine, Massachusetts, and Quebec.
White says her involvement with Young Tradition Vermont has given her the opportunity to improve her fiddle playing. She adds, “It’s incredibly wonderful to have access to teachers who are so open and supportive with their teaching and time, and to have friends who are just as eager to learn music as I am.”
In addition to their performance later this month in Shelburne, the group will be performing at festivals, concerts, schools, and dances in New England as well as a performance tour of the West Coast of Ireland next April. White, who is preparing for her second tour with the group, adds, “Young Tradition Vermont does an incredible job of making connections through music, from England to Scotland, to Ireland, to New England, to Quebec. Connections that bring people together.”
