Albany Berkshire Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” has been captivating audiences with ballet’s most enchanting tale since 1974. The Burlington holiday tradition returned to the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts MainStage last weekend with three Thanksgiving weekend performances, each with a different cast of local dancers.
Albany Berkshire Ballet, under the guidance of Artistic Director Madeline Cantarella Culpo, choreographed the beloved ballet, which also features the glittering score of Peter Tchaikovsky. With lavish sets and scenery designed by Carl Sprague, the performances featured over 140 local dance students from over 30 Vermont towns.
Aspiring Vermont dancers, ages 3 to 17, were given the opportunity to share the main stage with professional dancers from across the globe at the historic Flynn. The South Burlington area dancers include: Malin Bolton, Nora Bolton, Hanna Gustafson, Mary Guyette, Rachel Guyette, Hannah Larson, and Katherine Popick.
Helena Sullivan, owner and Artistic Director of Stowe Dance Academy, Mad River Dance Academy, and the Rehearsal Mistress for Albany Berkshire Ballet, led the rehearsals for the many young, local dancers to prepare them for the magical production.
