Bark For Life Honors Canine Caregivers

Whale tails and wagging doggie tails commemorate American Cancer Society’s annual Bark for Life celebration at Technology Park.

The American Cancer Society held its 5th Annual Bark For Life event on Friday, May 8 at Technology Park in South Burlington raising more than $11,000. The fundraising event honored the lifelong contributions of canine caregivers to cancer survivors. More than 100 people representing 27 teams, along with their dogs, joined together for a few hours of celebration and companionship and completed a one-mile walk. Participants enjoyed doggie games, demonstrations, a dress-up contest, and music.

“The Bark For Life event is an opportunity for people to celebrate canine companionship and fight back against cancer with their dogs,” said Jen Clark, community manager with American Cancer Society. “Every person who has been close to a cancer experience and has a dog in their life knows the importance of that loving relationship.”

South Burlington residents Karina Alvarez and Ryan McGrath, pictured far right in the team HOPE photo, joined with friends and co-workers to support the cause and the community.

The event is part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Chittenden County, which will be held June 19 -20 at the Exposition Center in Essex Junction. Funds raised through the events help the American Cancer Society save lives by funding groundbreaking research, supporting education efforts, and providing free information and critical services for cancer patients.
