Celebrating the Soil and Soul of the Community

Children participate in one of the many Common Roots programs that educate children and their families about healthy food options.

Common Roots celebrates 10 years of healthy food education, healthy kids and healthy farms Saturday, Oct. 6, 5:30 p.m., at Shelburne Farms. The Coach Barn will host local top chefs, live music and an auction all to benefit the nonprofit’s food education programs.

The South Burlington organization’s key programs include Farm to School, which educates over 1,000 students each month; Farm to Go, which has prepared over 12,000 meals that middle school student chefs take home to their families; and Community Food Shares, which currently offers a food shelf in South Burlington.

Common Roots also offers the Growing Gardens, Growing Kids program at their farm at South Village site, where children experience the land from soil to consumption. In addition, the nonprofit helps families in need have access to nutritious foods.
