The Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School 7/8 spelling team took the state win at the 2018 State Spelling Competition held Nov. 17 in Northfield. The event was hosted by the Vermont Principals Association. The FHTMS team competed against fellow regional team winners from Harwood Middle School, Orwell Village School, and Williston Central School. From left, Hammad Ali, FHTMS coach Edith Ainsley, Tanmayi Nazareth, Grace Stein, and Saksham Bhardwaj.
Grace Marroquin and Eve Neider of South Burlington stand on either side of Lydia Beaulieu from Milton. The three Mater Christi students took part in a self-defense course held at the school by Master Leonard Yordan of Yordan’s Black Belt Academy in South Burlington and Underhill. The students learned techniques to defend themselves, the importance of being aware of their surroundings, and listening to their “gut” feeling. The idea for the presentation was generated by Beaulieu’s school project. Mater Christi is a private Catholic school sponsored by the Mercy Education System of the Americas.
