Fogler Awarded Highest ACS Honor

Allison Fogler, center, pictured with her son, Andrew, accepts the American Cancer Society Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Values Award from Peg Camp, ACS executive vice president and New England division operating officer.

During the opening ceremony of the annual Relay For Life of Chittenden County on June 17, Allison Fogler was recognized by the American Cancer Society with the Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Values Award, the highest honor awarded to volunteers by the New England Division.

Fogler, a South Burlington resident, served as chair of the first Cattle Baron’s Ball in 2011 to benefit the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, Lois McClure-Bee Tabakin Building in Burlington. Fogler’s vision helped create a dynamic social event that raised tens of thousands of dollars to support free lodging and services for cancer patients and their caregivers. The ball thrived under Folger’s leadership for five years.

Committed to the mission of helping cancer patients in their time of need, Folger prepares meals for Hope Lodge guests, and she volunteers each year at the celebratory Relay For Life of Chittenden County Survivor & Caregiver Dinner. Fogler was elected to the 2015 American Cancer Society New England Division Board of Directors, serving a one-year term.

The American Cancer Society Sandra C. Labaree Volunteer Values Award recognizes and honors those volunteers whose actions and service in the fight against cancer most exemplify the organizational values of Mission, Data-Driven, Diversity, Respect, and Stewardship. They are imbued with special meaning because they are named in honor of the late Sandy Labaree, a Society volunteer from Maine and founding member of the New England Division Board, who served as a role model for nearly 25 years. Despite her death from breast cancer, Sandy’s spirit and values live on through this award.
