Ugly sweaters never looked better than they did on Dec. 9 at the Rotary Club of South Burlington’s second annual Ugly Sweater 5K Fun Run and 2.5K Walk at Veterans Memorial Park. Featuring creative themes from cats to reindeer to bellies, the sweaters brightened both the winter weather and the spirits of the 130 people who participated, including groups of friends, families, and some well-dressed pets.
The fundraiser took in $1,500 and proceeds benefit both the South Burlington Rotary Club charities and the Humane Society of Chittenden County’s Camp Paw Paw.
This year’s event saw the addition of a large tent where chili and soup was served, along with hot chocolate, cider, and beer. A photo booth in the tent provided the opportunity to create a lasting memory of the occasion – and the sweater.
“What a fun event,” said Rotary’s Jay Pasackow. “You can definitely see by all the smiles that people enjoyed themselves.”
Humane Society of Chittenden County President and CEO Joyce Cameron added that the organization was thrilled with the success of the Ugly Sweater Run.
“All of us at HSCC are so grateful to South Burlington Rotary and everyone who sponsored and participated in the Ugly Sweater Run/Walk,” she said. “Your contributions fund our scholarship program that allows kids to attend our humane educational camps who otherwise might not be able to. We cannot thank you enough!”
