Five local Rotary Clubs banded together late last year to recognize the needs of children and families in their communities as part of the Rotary District 7850 Grant Program. Representatives from the clubs presented a check for $9,000 to the YMCA on Nov. 1, 2018 at the Doubletree in South Burlington. The funds will help support the organizations swimming programs and lessons. The Rotary Clubs participating included South Burlington, Burlington Sunrise, Burlington, Essex, and Colchester-Milton.

Rotarians and their clubs contribute to the Rotary International Foundation each year. Every three years, funds are returned to the districts and made available for clubs to apply for grants to help financially support larger projects in their communities. A $4,000 district grant was combined with a $1,000 contribution from each of the clubs.

Rotary District 7850 Governor Larry Vars attended the check presentation, and Kyle Dodson, CEO of the Greater Burlington YMCA, accepted the donation. Dodson shared with the club’s YMCA plans for a new 50,000 square foot facility, which will include exercise amenities, an aquatics center with two pools, and a mixed-use gymnasium. YMCA notes 2020 as the facility’s anticipated grand opening.

“This long-standing organization is deeply rooted in our community and brings people together - much like Rotary,” said Dodson. “It is great when we can help one another better serve our neighbors.”
