The South Burlington Police Department will host an American Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 19 Gregory Drive. The department reports that all presenting donors will receive a raffle prize ticket.

According to The American Red Cross, blood donations often decline during the holidays as regular donors are busy with holiday activities, and travel and severe winter weather may cause blood drive cancellations.

“In fact, right now, the American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage and has issued an urgent call for eligible donors of all blood types to give now and avoid delays in medical care for patients,” said Maria Devlin, CEO of the American Red Cross New Hampshire and Vermont. “Right now, blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in.”

Residents are encouraged to visit redcrossblood.org and enter SBPolice to schedule an appointment. To save time, The American Red Cross makes it possible to complete pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of the appointment by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass.

“On behalf of the Red Cross, I’m inviting you to roll up a sleeve and give the perfect gift – the gift of life,” said Devlin. “Your gift could lead to a lifetime of holiday memories for patients in need.”
