The Vermont Youth Dancers will perform “Turn to Stone: A Journey to Narnia” at South Burlington High School Saturday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, June 23, at 2 p.m. The show is open to the general public and is a full performance of the preview the troupe gave to students and staff at Orchard and Chamberlin schools this May.

Comprised of 45 dancers, ages 8 to 18, from towns throughout Chittenden County, Vermont Youth Dancers present a yearly production of a story told through dance. In recent years, shows have included retellings of “The Wizard of Oz,” “Oliver” and “Aladdin.” This year’s show is based on “The Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis.

The company’s performances feature a variety of dance styles from ballet and contemporary to jazz and hip-hop. In addition, the dancers’ family members contribute to the production by building sets, designing costumes and handling technical needs such as lights and sound.

Each year, Vermont Youth Dancers select a charity to support with proceeds from the show. This year, since the Narnia story takes place during World War II, proceeds will go to Vermont Pathways, an organization that helps returning veterans find housing.
