One man has been charged and another is being sought in two purse-snatching incidents — one successful and the other a failure.
Shaun D. Bouchard, 33, of Burlington has been charged with larceny from a person and driving after license suspension in connection with the incidents July 17.
Police say they’re still looking for Danny L. Bouchard Jr., 27, of Burlington in connection with the incidents.
Police allege the two men tried to take a purse from a woman’s car at the Maplefields convenience store on Williston Road July 17 at about 4 p.m. The woman confronted them, grabbed her purse, and the men fled in a black BMW wagon.
About 45 minutes later, police allege, the same men took a purse from a vehicle while a person was sitting in it at the Dorset Street Hannaford Supermarket, then drove away through the University Mall parking lot.
Burlington police later found them in their vehicle on Cayuga Court, and said the two men ran when officers asked to speak with them about the incidents. Shaun Bouchard later turned himself in at the South Burlington Police Department. Police were still seeking Danny Bouchard.
“This was concerning because both were really aggressive acts,” said South Burlington Police Chief Shawn Burke. “There were indicators of drug addiction, which is a motivator for these types of crime.”
Burke thanked the victims for reporting the crimes and officers for tracking down the suspects.
Surveillance video “made it crystal clear who was responsible,” Burke said.
