I don’t like that fact that the city of South Burlington is trying to act like a major metro city. The SoBu signs are stupid. South Burlington is not a major city. I come from Albany, N.Y., the Capital District of New York. Albany is a major city because over one million people are in the city and the surrounding towns, and other cities like Bethlehem, Watervliet, Stillwater, Menands, Troy, Schenectady, West Albany, Colonie and Saratoga, just to name a few, add another 1.5 million to 2 million people to the area of Albany.
What makes the Albany area a major metro city is 3 million or more people. There are multiple forms of public transit — an airport, light rail, taxi service, bus service, and at least 15 different Amtrak trains a day that come in and out of Albany and the area.
We also have more public safety in my city. All there is in South Burlington are the police and fire. In my city, we have 10 different firehouses and 10 police precincts.
South Burlington is not a city; it is a town.
