I have lived in South Burlington for 45 years. This letter is to the taxpayers of South Burlington. When is our municipal and school board leadership going to be responsible to us, the taxpayers of South Burlington?

As of right now, the proposed municipal budget is up 3.72 percent and the proposed school budget is 4.15 percent. Ouch! I have a concern. Why do our city and school budgets always increase, especially this projected budget this coming year? I realize there are contracts, but why are both city employees and teachers given pay raises year after year? In the real world of work, employees do not receive raises year after year. Why do our city and school budgets show increases in staff, also year after year? I believe that reduction in student enrollment in Vermont in the last 10 years is over 30,000 students. There needs to more effort by our city and school leadership to keep our taxes down as they are spending too much

I think that our city and school leadership do not take into consideration that many in our community are on a fixed income and 80 percent do not have kids in our school system.

On the proposed Option Tax increase of one percent, for a total of two percent, slated to build a recreation facility. I thought originally the Option Tax was to help lower our property taxes. I now may have to purchase goods in another community to keep costs down.

I am sure by now you will know how I will vote on the city and school budgets in March.
