South Burlington High School (SBHS) alumni were on hand for The Stefan Pierson Memorial Soccer Tournament July 16 at the University of Vermont’s Virtue Field. 28 teams participated in the full day of competition featuring alumni squads from four area high schools. The final game was played under the lights by SBHS and Burlington High School. The tournament was a fundraiser for the Stefan Pierson Foundation’s Conquer the Day, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide support to young adults battling cancer. Pierson, a 2011 graduate of SBHS who died at the age of 22 after his battle with bone cancer, is the inspiration for the nonprofit due to his well-documented relentless spirit, determination, and boundless resolve. The foundation holds its official launch August 13 with an outdoor evening event featuring live music, the SBHS talent show winner Outdoor Voices, and food trucks for picnic fare.
