South Burlington 1, St. Johnsbury 1: South Burlington took an early lead but had to settle for a 1-1 tie with visiting St. Johnsbury on Saturday afternoon.
Samy Slamani gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead at the 15-minute mark, with Ben Knudsen earning an assist on the goal.
Liam Tobin tied it up in the second half for the Hilltoppers, scoring on a corner kick.
Ben Capano stopped four shots in goal for South Burlington, while Asom Hayman made seven saves for St. Johnsbury Academy.
Burlington-South Burlington 29, Brattleboro 7: The Burlington-South Burlington football team recovered from its first loss of the season to top Brattleboro 29-7 on Friday night.
The SeaWolves move to 3-1 with the win.
Manny Dodson carried the offensive load for the SeaWolves, scoring three touchdowns in the first half and finishing with 89 yards on 13 carries. Dodson’s three scores came from 21-yards, 9-yards and 3-yards out and helped BHS-SB to a 22-0 halftime lead.
Nico Strempek led the team’s rushing attack with 165 yards on 27 carries, while Robbie Mafuta added a 1-yard TD run to round out the scoring for the SeaWolves.
The SeaWolves defense also had a strong night, limiting Brattleboro to 98 yards of total offense.
South Burlington 3, Vermont Commons 1: The South Burlington boys volleyball team split the week’s action, topping Vermont Commons on Wednesday before falling to Enosburg 3-2 on Friday.
In the win over Vermont Commons, the Wolves took the first set 25-14 and the second 25-17. Vermont Commons came back to win the third set 18-25 before South Burlington closed out the win with a 25-14 victory in the fourth set.
South Burlington 2, Enosburg 3: On Friday, South Burlington posted an early 1-0 lead (winning the first set 25-21) before falling behind after losing the next two sets to Enosburg. The Wolves came back for a 25-12 win in the fourth set before falling in the fifth-set tiebreaker.
South Burlington competed in the first-ever VPA Bass Fishing Competition on Saturday, Sept. 15, on Lake Champlain.
The competition, which measures most weight per boat to determine the winner, saw the team from Essex emerge on top, with a combined catch weighing 19.19 pounds.
The two South Burlington boats came in 11th and 12th, with South Burlington 1 bringing in 9.69 pounds of fish and South Burlington 2 catching 9 pounds.
The next event will be the VPA State Championship on October 6.
