The South Burlington alpine ski team took the slopes at Burke Mountain for the first leg of the Vermont state championships, the giant slalom.

George Huffman was 32nd on the boys side to lead the Wolves, while Sean Boyer followed in 51st.

On the girls side, the lone South Burlington skier was Emma Shedleur. She finished in 47th place.

The next stage of the ski championships, the slalom, was held on Tuesday at Burke Mountain, but results were unavailable at press time.

Nordic Skiing

The South Burlington Nordic ski teams wrapped up the Vermont high school state championships on Monday afternoon at the Rikert Outdoor Center in Middlebury.

Lucas Parascando came in 63rd and was the top finisher in the boys 5K Classic race for the Wolves, while Trey Uttecht finished in 68th and Haias Ericksson was 71st. Christopher Bialas (73rd) and James Bialas (75th) rounded out the South Burlington finishers.

In the boys 5K freestyle - which took place on Feb. 28 at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center - Parascando was again the top Wolves finisher with a 57th place finish. Uttecht was 68th, Eriksson was 71st, Christopher Bialas was 73rd and Jamed Bialas finished 75th.

On the girls side, Ava Carroll (45th) was the first South Burlington skier across the line in the 5K Classic race, while teammate Holly Margulius was 49th.

In the 5K freestyle, Margulius was the first across the line for the Wolves, finishing in 48th. Carroll finished 53rd.
