Sgt. Chris Bataille of the South Burlington Police Department has his badge pinned by his daughter after taking his oath of office from Chief Shawn Burke.

Having recently left the detective bureau, Bataille was promoted from corporal to sergeant and returned to uniform to oversee a patrol team.

Bataille has served the City of South Burlington since 2011. He began his police career with the Hinesburg Police Department in 2008.

Bataille holds an associate degree in criminal justice and worked as a legal assistant in a private law firm and a case manager for Court Diversion prior to becoming a police officer.

According to Chief Burke, Bataille has been the lead investigator on a number of high-profile crimes and emerged as a “the most compelling candidate to join the formal leadership team in the competitive process for the rank of sergeant.”

“Policing is in need of compassionate and competent leaders,” Chief Burke added. “Sgt. Bataille clearly embodies these traits given the level of respect he has with his peers and his clear focus on serving the citizens of South Burlington.”
